2023 Ford Maverick Trim Levels: A Buyer’s Guide

March 1st, 2024 by

The new Maverick is an exceptional all-around pickup truck for drivers who are always on the go. It’s available in three trim levels: the XL, XLT, and Lariat.

In the compact pickup truck segment, the new Maverick is reclaiming its position as the most well-rounded truck on the market. The fresh exterior styling, the exceptional versatility, and the low starting price on the base models make the Maverick hard to ignore. The 2023 Maverick is available in three trim levels: the base XL, the mid-range XLT, and the upscale Lariat. With three options to choose from, which one should you pick?

2023 Maverick Engine Lineup

Motivating the 2023 Maverick is a standard 2.5L hybrid powertrain that produces a net 191 hp and 155 lb-ft of torque in front-wheel drive paired to a continuously variable automatic transmission. This setup makes for a smooth and frugal ride.

The Maverick can also be optioned with a punchier 2.0L four-cylinder turbocharged engine that churns out an impressive 250 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission with an optional AWD drive system for this powertrain.

The 2.0L turbocharged engine AWD gets an EPA rating of 25 mpg combined, 23 in the city and 30 on the highway. That’s already a decent fuel economy for its class. But the real deal breaker is the hybrid powertrain. The hybrid Maverick returns an impressive 37 mpg combined, 42 in the city, and 33 on the highway, crushing most trucks and non-hybrid compact sedans on the market.

For more muscle and enhanced off-roading capability, we recommend getting the new Tremor Off-road Package plus the Towing Package to unlock the Maverick’s 4,000 lbs towing capacity. However, you have to get the XLT or Lariat AWD for this setup.

What We Recommend

If you’re looking for the Maverick that makes for a good work truck and covers just the basics, the XL version is best for keeping the price down as low as possible. However, it doesn’t come with cruise control.

The XLT trim is more value-oriented. It comes with 17-inch steel wheels, cruise control, a power lock for the tailgate, power exterior mirrors, an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, FordPass Connect, and more.

The Lariat version tops the 2023 Maverick lineup, and it gets all the niceties of the Maverick. It comes with Desert Brown Interior: ActiveX® trimmed seats, an eight-way power driver’s seat, 18-inch aluminum wheels, keyless entry, cruise control, and more.

Going for the option 2.0L four-cylinder engine AWD for a punchier acceleration plus the Tow Package to unlock the Maverick’s maximum towing capacity of 4000 lbs are also nice upgrades.

The best Maverick boils to your priorities, lifestyle, and budget. The XLT model generally fits everyone’s budget with plenty of features and available upgrades.
